One Step Forward

Today marks two weeks since Owen had his arrest. The same day we were supposed to be discharged to go home to Phoenix.  Time has passed by so quickly but the days are SO very long.  Owen continues to improve and actually had his best day yet.  He hasn't been febrile and his HR has been in the 150s.

He is just over it all.  Tonight we did Lovenox injections, dressing changes on the PICC/ART lines, and he isn't thrilled about the inhaled antibiotic treatments.  He has been such a trooper but he is going to have plenty to tell us when we extubate him and he has his voice back.  It's so unfair.  I am praying his heart remains stable while we kick this Pnuemonia. He definitely seems to be on the upswing, but has a ways to go.  Tonight, one of the bronchoscopy viral panels came back for Rhinovirus (which is basically the common cold), the other viral tests came back negative.  We are still waiting on the fungal (initial tests are neg) and gram stains.  For now, we wait...

We watched Kung Fu Panda 3 and just watch time pass by today.  I feel like we are so busy all day but we really aren't doing anything but watching the clock.  Hospital time is just an odd thing.  There were plenty of smiles today.  Owen loves his RT Jerry and even named his Tiger stuffed animal "Jerry the Tiger" after him.  He has to wear a big bubble hood while we do his inhaled Tobramyacin since we are in a shared room and Jerry took the time to decorate it with all kinds of Star Wars stuff so it was "cool" and not torturous.
Liz posted this photo of her and Kelly on FB.  These two ladies were my rocks that terrible evening two weeks ago.  Liz was just walking by my room and held me as I broke down.  Kelly came and found me outside the cath lab and was with me in my worst hour.  They were my rocks that night when I was broken.  Heart moms have a special bond and I am so grateful for these ladies.  I am so thrilled that Kelly was able to lifeflight her little girl back home to Minnesota yesterday to be closer to her family as she had been here a very long time.  Liz will be here for the long haul with us. :)
I always say one step forward, two steps back... today was one step forward.

Hopefully you meant to say two steps forward, one step backward! You need forward progress!!!
