Keratosis Pilaris

The diagnosis for the bumps invading Owen's skin?? Keratosis Pilaris. Also known as "chicken skin". I am not supposed to scrub it too hard, pick at it or scratch it. Good to know. Do parents actually do that? I am to leave it alone and it may, or may not, go away on it's own. It looks like "chicken skin" is here to stay!

Unless, of course, it's not Keratosis Pilaris and it IS an allergic reaction of some sort? It could be a reaction to one of his nine medicines... but figuring that out is near impossible. I am switching up his body wash from cheap-o Target brand to something a little more gentle. Then I'll grab another jumbo pack of Hydrocordisone cream at Costco and start slathering him up after his baths. Maybe we'll find a way to cure the bumps ourselves.

After we figured that little mystery out, we had to decide which immunizations to give. Polio? MMR? Hep B? Flu Vaccine? Rotovirus? The options are endless! There are so many to catch up on.

Poor Owen got four pokes in the thighs. :( Good thing Kamryn came along so that she could get surprised with a flu shot of her own! She was okay with her shot, but couldn't bear to watch Owen get his shots.

Glad that's out of the way for another four weeks.

That doesn't sound like any fun at all! Kind of a rough day for Mr. Owen!

I also get those bumps on my skin, though I believe that mine are eczema related. This is the product that I use on it:

It's kind of expensive (approx $40 per container), but the relief it brings is SO worth it! I even use it on my three-year-old as he has really sensitive, itchy skin as well, and when I use it on him, he doesn't scratch or complain of having "hurting skins" at all!

Just a suggestion!

I fibbed! I gave you the link for the body cream, but I actually use the body butter which is thicker and about $10 less expensive:

so glad it is nothing serious.
Oh that sweet tender baby white skin...
Sounds like he needs products with "LACTIN" in them, such as Am Lactin lotion, Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment or Eucerin Intensive repair.
Try a patch test
A little goes a long way'
I also recommended DOVE beauty bar. (No Soap in it) for sensitive dry skin. It won't hurt a flea, it's so mild.
A dermatolgist would have a great lotion for him, but I know they can be expensive visits so I recommended Patch Test.
Remember when buying products for Little O to reach for Sensitive skin products skin.
There, Mother Hen has spoken ;0)

Do they offer any oral or nasal immunizations?

Poor kid! I learned just today that those bumps are the result of not enough zinc in the system and if you replace it they would go away. Maybe you can try that to help the cutie pie?

I also have "chicken skin" although mine isn't quite as prominent as mr. owen's looks. My skin doesn't look all smooth like most people's; you can see every little red dot under the skin. I found out when I became embarrassed of it around 4th grade. The doctor said it CAN go away but mine didn't. However if it makes you feel better-it doesnt itch, hurt, nothing like that. Its just there. It is what it is, and I'm glad that's all mr. owen has :) *megan from wi*

I also have "chicken skin" and will try that zinc suggestion. Good to know it doesn't hurt though :)

Believe it or not, people actually do pick/scratch at their babies bumps. I have had a few friends do it to their babies acne. Hopefully it will clear up soon, and if it is an allergic reaction I hope you can figure out what is causing it.

Oh and to answer your comment on our latest blog, Lily was not called fat, I was told I might need to consider a diet for her, which is as good as calling her fat.

Our 2 year old, Natalie, has the same exact bumps in little spots all over.. behind her upper arms, around her knees, ankles, etc. Poor Owen. :( But I hear that the bumps get better as they keep growing. *crossing fingers* I was reading the suggestions and I love them. I'll have to try something new since whatever I've been doing hasn't helped.
When I read the part about the 4 shots my jaw dropped.. Natalie, too got 4 shots a week ago and it's horrible. 3 of those were for RSV. Not fun at all. Poor little dude.
BTW, I love the photos of Owen in the swing! Too darn precious.

My kids both have the same bumps. I used to think they got worse with milk, but now I don't really know. I switched them to all organic body washes and laundry detergents and make sure to use Aquaphor or Lubriderm cream on them every night. The more I lotion them up, the better the bumps are. And my 4 year old's have gotten better with time. I still think they are related to allergies, but I can't figure out what! Good luck with the cutie!
