We had a visit with Dr Silber (GI DOC) today. Owen continues to lose weight. It's a mystery. His height is about the same. His head?? His head continues to grow and remains off the charts. We are so proud of that big, beautiful head!
I have continued to increase his calories and volume of formula to no avail. I started the transfer to pediasure today. I'm doing half formula and half pediasure and he's tolerating it just fine.
Soon, he will be on strictly Pediasure, 30 cal per ounce. I will then wean him off the night drip. There will be a full night of sleep in my future. Soon. Very soon.
Tomorrow Owen has a whole new bunch of immunizations. He's also got bumps all over his arms and face. Eczema perhaps? I'm sure it's nothing major, but I have no idea what to use to get rid of it.

Enough of bump talk... until tomorrow.
Kamryn has only two and half days of school left until FALL BREAK!! Then she'll miss an entire week of school while we're in California. Not a bad deal to go to school for two weeks in the month of October! Then she has winter break off school for two weeks in December and January. It's tough being a fourth grader.
Time to cook dinner, do the dishes, rotate the laundry, scrub the kids in the tub, read stories, and then bedtime. Night.

Goodness...what's up with the bumps? Poor thing! I hope the doctor knows exactly what it is and that it's nothing big!!!!!! Praying a special prayer for that tonight! And for gaining weight...gotta put on that weight Owen :)
oh poor little man. I hate bumps too.
Have you tries Benadryl lotion as it looks like allergy?(maybe drug induced?) Calamine is a cure-all for lots of mystery bumps. He may need cortisone ointment though.
Aveeno Oatmeal bath may help him if he itches. As long as he is not a scratcher he should be ok til he sees Mr. Doc.
Oh ANdrea, if it's not one thing it's the other, isn't it? My Mothers phrase was"It's always something" and boy was she right! ;)
GOod luck tomorrow I will say a prayer they disappear
p.s. Looking closer, I was thinking heat rash or detergent allergy, but it is on skin not in contact too, so wondering if it is an allergy to his formula and then that would explain the weight loss??????
Don't mind me, I get obsessed on helping little cutie pies ;)
have they always been there? I have bumps on my arms & legs and my doctor says they are [big fancy doctor words here] which translates to [bumps on arms]. I have them on my arms, back, legs. And my older son has them, my younger will probably get them, too.
I have given you an award....come and see.!!!!!

Oh poor Owen. Those bumps don't look like any fun. Cain keeps bumps like that on him. Maybe not quite as bad but similar. The Dr. prescribed us cortisone cream to apply for 10 days. As soon as one spot disappears another one flares up. They don't ever seem to bother Cain but I hate seeing them on him. Hopefully Owen will start gaining weight again and the bumps will go away.
I've been checking your blog for quite awhile now. I want to tell you that it is beautifully done. I wish I had your photography skills! You also have such a positive attitude and outlook in difficult times! I'll pray for your sweet Owen. I hope when the transplant time comes it is smooth without many setbacks. I've been through a transplant with my husband 8 months ago. He was also born with a CHD. He fortunately made it to age 37 before needing the transplant. We'll keep your family in our prayers!

Maybe linked to the recent switch to pediasure? Hm...I would say try some cortisone cream. It makes me a little nervous that it is everywhere...hm...lemme think on it.
My son had these bumps on his arms, legs, back and stomach when he was about 18 months old. I worked in a dermatologist's office before my son was born. The dermatologist I worked for told me that the bumps on his arms and legs were where there was hair growing. The hair had not come through the skin yet, and make little inflamed bumps, that do not itch. We started using aveeno lotion, and most of the bumps cleared up. However he is now 2.5 and still has some bumps. Another thing that works is a sugar body scrub. This removes some of the dead skin making it easier for the follicles to pop through.
The bumps on your son's forehead look like an allergy to detergent or fabric softener. My son is highly allergic to all fragrances, on his towels and clothes.
Hope this helps!!
It looks like an allergic reaction to me...I'm an expert on exeama (sp.) and it doesn't look like it to me, but who am I ?! I'm sure the doc will take care of that!
Weren't you the one that taught me about the ice packs on the the night feed so you don't have to get up? If not, just ask and I'll explain it better.
Gain some weight little man, won't you?
Being a mom of healthy kids is a full time job. Add in all of the endless appointments Owen has, I just don't know how you do it! (And with a smile) You are good Andrea, real good!
We also switched over to Pediasure for our Owen several months ago. Our amazing developmental pediatrician helped us order it through our insurance and it gets delivered straight to our front door. We had previously been buying Owen's formula ourselves, so it's a big blessing not to have that expense anymore. Don't know if you already have insurance covering Owen's formula, but if not you might want to check it out!
The only thing I can think of for the bumps is to try switching up your detergent (though it doesn't really look like an allergy.) You could also try hydrocortisone cream. Good luck!
Praying for precious Owen's rash to heal and for weight gain! He is so adorable and I am so glad that his mommy and daddy love him so much and take great care of him!
I am in agreement with the vote for hydrocortisone cream. I think it's some kind of miracle cream! Carla also has issues with very sensitive skin. She gets rashes on her face and has bumps on her arms. Hydrocortisone cream works and I make sure and use Dreft on her clothes and bedding. She gets a rash on her body otherwise. Good luck. You are so right about how difficult it is to deal with "normal" kid things when you are so used to dealing the the big cardiac things! Hope the pediatrician knows what to do and also that Mr. Owen gains some weight! Jen
Keeping little Owen lifted up in prayer.
My youngest son has all kinds of allergies and also has those bumps. For him we have to use completely natural/organic bodywash, laundry detergent & lotion. If we can't afford it at the time (it can get expensive) we make sure his stuff is scent/dye free & use baby lotion with oatmeal on the bumpy areas to keep them from getting dry and itchy. He still has some bumps but nothing like he used to until we finally started figuring out what helps.
Hope the appointment gets you some answers on Owen's mystery rash...you remember our rash problems with Maddie??? It was so frustrating, we never really had an answer and she hasn't had anymore, weird. Anyway, these guys have to throw us curve balls every now and then, right!?! Good luck today and I'll say a little prayer for mr. to start gaining!
I know about bumps...
I mean...Isaac has bumps..
all kinds...everywhere...
we've tried SO many creams, rubs, shampoos...
do you think it's just their bodies, all the darn meds...just a breakdown??
Seriously, we're on 14 meds and have tried 20ish prescription creams to remedy all his bumps. and like you...it could be an allergy...but, how the heck are we suppose to figure it out??
Good luck..and let me know if you figure it out.
(we see a new dermatologist in a few weeks...if I get something new to try that works..I'll spread the news too)
Try switching your laundry detergent and using a gentle but effective lotion. Melaleuca has some incredible lotion (Renew) and laundry soap. Seriously worth a try. I know many skin conditions that have seen improvement with this simple change. And it isn't expensive.
I know this was an old post but Alan has that too. They look like that but are only on his arms and the top of his thighs. They don't seem to be bothering him so we haven't sought after treatment but I'm not sure what they are.
