Slight Improvement

**UPDATE**
Owen just had 2 icky, watery diapers... icky. He also looks like he's in desperate need of a tan. He's PASTY white! Keep praying that this passes and he feels better!
-----------------------------------------------

Owen wants to stay away from the hospital... he's making a little improvement. Less puking ... and I'm being optimistic! He seems to be tolerating his feeds... more. He's spent the majority of the day sleeping and resting in bed. Sleep it off buddy.

We did a little play doh therapy for about five minutes. Since he still HATES to bear weight in his feet or knees (there goes crawling and walking)... our occupational therapist suggested I try different textures on them. Today was play doh! He wasn't amused. I squished in into his feet, between his toes and he looked at me and said "AAAAHHH, NA NA NA NA!" Who doesn't love to squish play doh?? Tomorrow.. we're going to try rice!

I thought I'd clarify a little on his heart. I am so used to the medical jargon that I throw it around and then I got to thinking that alot of you don't know what some of it means. Why would you?

Owen had lab work done in January while he was in the cath lab. The labs came back and Owen is definetly in "heart failure". Surprise! We already had that figured out. Milrinone is a medicine given to patients through IV and it helps the heart work and is primarily for patients in heart failure. When a patient is admitted in the hospital on milrinone... they also become priority on the tranplant list.

The reason we are not to this point with Owen YET... is because he is doing ok at home on his loads of oral meds. There will be a time... soon (this Monday if he doesn't improve), when Owen will be admitted and placed on Milrinone. We call it vitamin M for short... it's magical!

We'd like to keep Owen home as long as possible... for obvious reasons.

We had to run to Target this morning and grab some formula. Owen caught sight of one of those giant bins of balls.... he about jumped out of his stroller!

Of course I bought him one!!

I hope he is turnng a corner & will be done with this sickness ASAP! It is so hard to take care of a sick baby...I have to hand it to you!
He looks great! Maybe you can get him to stand on the ball? With lots of assistance of course! He may think that's cool. Josh always wants us to help him jump on our exercise ball.
Anyway...hope things improve with the little guy!

I'm so glad he is feeling better. Zach loves those balls too, but unfortunately, he shares them with our dog so they don't last long.
Hope Owen keeps perking up. I'll keep up the praying.

Old worried Mother Hen here.... Have you tried small bites of:
rice cereal,cream of rice,banana,cooked carrots,dry white toast,cooked white potato,applesauce,
white grape juice, yogurt? Got to bind this little guy up fast.
I have a feeling this is the tail end of this nasty, dirty, icky virus and tomorrow morning will be happy news. Come on little guy, we want happy news! Sleep tight Mr. little Simmons. Hug

Oh I hope he continues with the slight improvements... It's SO hard to be in the ICU, I'm sure it's a hard thought for you to wait there for a heart. I hope this weekend is good to Mr. Owen. His syptoms sound too close to what the dr. was describing! :( Poor little buddy... we are always praying for you all during this hard time. I can only imagine how difficult and scary all this is...I think I would be feeling very LOST too.. I'm so sorry. You have always been such a good example to me of optimism.. that's the only way to get though all of this! we sure love your little guy and are always praying for him.

We are thinking and praying that the Lord is in all of these details so that Owen can get the perfect heart for him. Stick in there. We are praying so hard for this little guy. I think that your therapist would think the ball is a great idea. It looks to me that he is trying to balance it on his feet. He'll get it. We used anything with texture to get his feet going. Spiky and textured balls were great.

I am so excited I just realized Owen shares my older son's birthday. Now I will never forget him on his special day. Just wanted to add that Tyler was probably behind Owen with walking at the same age and is now walking. Hope that gives you some hope for the future.
