Six o'clock rolled around and Owen was given the go ahead to eat. I had him start with a popscicle and thought he would just suck on it a bit... I was wrong. Owen ate the entire popsicle. Soon after he finished off an entire pickle, 2 vanilla waffers, a small carton of whole milk, lettuce, cheese, and 2 strips of a Kit Kat bar. Like I said, call him my little eating machine!
Not only did he eat more food than ever, he chewed and swallowed with skills I have only dreamed he had. Usually, if he eats a pickle, he will chew it a while and store it in his cheek. Eventually, he will swallow it or spit it out. Today he chewed and swallowed like a pro. He used the same skills with his milk. He usually drinks from a straw and half of it is spit out. Today he not only swallowed it all, but he guzzled without a breath in between. I'm a proud momma!!
We traded in the crib for a big ol' bed. Owen and I are snuggled up and I'm going to attempt to get a good night's sleep. ICU is never a quiet place, even with the doors shut and curtains drawn. Beep... beep...beep....

OH my goodness!! Yay! I am so happy he is loving his food. I can only imagine how great it would feel to have a throat free from tubies.
Glad the surgery went well!
Hopefully you get some sleep tonight- ask for the ear plugs...I went through pack after pack.
What excellent news! A stellar successful day in Owen-land!
Great news about the surgery and awesome recovery! Tell Owen way to go on the eating! Love the updates and pics!
Hold on a second...pickles and nilla wafers? Last time someone in our house ate that, they were pregnant...
So glad for the good day--we can sense the lightness in your post and we're joyful along with you.
Sleep well,
Rolf and Trish
YAY! Go Owen! So happy to hear he's doing well. Hope you two were able to get some rest last night.
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO glad to hear that things went well for him! I am literally LOL about the eating machine... still sending many prayers that you are home soon and enjoying the "less tubed" life! I hope you guys love that Mic-key as much as we do!
What a blessing to have him eating so well! Sounds like things are truly moving in a positive direction. I will pray that blessings will continue to abound for you :)
Wow! So glad to hear it went well!

Love, Hugs and Prayers-

Oh wow!! That is awesome, glad he is doing so well. He makes me smile. He is such a strong and a good boy. You are so blessed girl, so blessed. But I know you already know that. ;)
Glad to hear Mr. Owen is eating so well! It's probably so nice for him not to have the feeding tube in the back of his throat, even if it was his "normal" :) Wouldn't it be amazing if he started eating like a little machine from here on out? I will pray for that!
HOLY COW OWEN!! I knew he's eat better but not THAT quick! That's awesome!! He feels better already with that thing out!! Wasn't it the greatest feeling to pull it out before surgery and know you never had to put it in again?!? How is he this morning? I'm so glad everythign went SO well!
Holy Cow! Do you think that his NJ tube made that much of a difference for him in being comfortable to swallow?? Makes me wonder what would happen if he was able to do that more often before! Oh well, at least you have the G tube now so you can make sure he is hydrated on his sick days!
What a champ! It's a relief to hear that he is doing so well.
I follow Owen and your family's blog. Very rarely do I comment. But Owen has touched my heart and continues to amaze me! Thank you for sharing your family's story! My prayers are with your family!
