Make Up

Kamryn has been asking if she can wear makeup. Most of the girls in her grade wear makeup, and most of them wear the bright pink blush with blue shadow. You know.. the kind we were in the 80s. I finally gave in and told her it has to look natural, nothing crazy, and if it makes her late for school then she's done. :)
We spent a few hours on Saturday watching youtube videos on makeup application.  Most of the videos we watched were makeup specifically for teens, natural and light application.  Kamryn has natural artistic skills and has some experience with applying her stage makeup for dance team performance... which is usually pretty dark and heavy.

This is how she did with her first application... amazing... near perfect.
We went to Ulta this morning and I was going to buy her the Urban Decay Naked eye palette, but she fell in love with this Too Faced Naked palette instead.  I love it because the colors are light and highly pigmented, so she doesn't have to apply too much.  It also comes with little instruction cards.  The greys and pinks are so pretty for blue eyes as well.
We also got all my make up out and dusted it off.  I have SO much MAC makeup that I didn't even know I had.  A lot of the colors are a little too shimmery for me, but great for her.  My mom just gave me some great Smashbox blushes as well.  She has more than enough makeup to play with now.

She came home and straight to the bathroom she went to take care of her skin before applying makeup.  Moisturizer with sunblock is a must, since we live in AZ.  Then she used my eyelid primer and went to town.  I came in and gave her a quick eyeliner lesson, but overall, she did it herself.
I think she looks so pretty with or without makeup, but it does feel great to see her feel so confident.  My sister found a really cool poster for the girls rooms that says...

For
 Beautiful Eyes
look for the good in others, for
Beautiful Lips
speak only words of kindness, and
For Poise
walk with the knowledge that you are
Never Alone.

-Audrey Hepburn

I agree with you, Kamryn is a doll without makeup. However, I think it's one fun thing about being a girl. I remember how exciting it was to get to start wearing a little makeup in 7th grade. She did a great job applying her makeup. It looks very natural.

OMG- she looks like such a little adult!! In just the few short years that I've been reading your blog, it's amazing how much she's changed. she is a beautiful girl- with our without makeup. :)

Wow she's only 12 and she and her friends already wear makeup ?! Things have sure changed since I was 12 and I'm still in my 20's! My school wouldn't even allow us to wear makeup until age 16 in high school, and well my Daddy was a whole nother story! Ha! Needless to say my father was strict with us. Btw, I think your daughter looks so beautiful without makeup. Girls that age have such natural beauty that just shines. :)

Oh and I just love that poster! What a beautiful message. Where did your sister find it?

Nurse Jill... she only has a little blush, lip gloss and neutral eyeshadow. So.. she looks gorgeous, not ridiculous.

A 12 yr old should have all their teeth and she can't control that. She chooses to smile her big beautiful smile, no teeth and all.

I dropped her off at school today with very little makeup and even then she exuded confidence and felt so beautiful!! She knows she is gorgeous without makeup too, but it makes her feel beautiful with a little makeup too.

There is nothing ridiculous about that.

Kamryn is getting so old! She's such a pretty girl...and a make up pro I have to say, considering how most young girls apply make up!
Anyway, thanks for your comment. I've been thinking about Owen a lot because I totally remember you guys getting the news about his weak function as well. So glad to see a kiddo so similar to Joshy overcome Josh's most recent obstacle. They say that Josh's pacemaker makes certain meds not an option. It's all a balancing act...you totally know this!

Wow, she looks GREAT - I think she did a great job, nice and subtle, NOT ridiculous or inappropriate as the other poster said. She looks beautiful!!! Give her a big hug from Bodie and I and tell her she did a fantastic job!

I can't believe 12-year-olds are already wearing makeup. A lot has changed since I was in middle school (and that was only 13 years ago for me)! She applied her makeup very nicely. It looks pretty and natural. Congrats on your little girl slowly growing up! :)
