Fresh Air

Today started off a little rough. Owen had a good night sleep but woke up with his tummy hurting. He is getting boluses of tube feeds all night so that we can optimize calories and get him gaining weight. I am pretty certain I would feel crummy if someone force fed me all night too. Tonight we will stop his feeds after 2am and see if it helps.
It could also be the many meds he gets twice daily.  Today he said his tummy felt fine just before starting meds...then he puked.  Poor guy.  I am going to have to space these out a bit.
I allowed his tummy to rest all morming and he fell asleep at noon for a 2hr nap.  He woke up and asked for nachos with black beans and jalepenos.  He ate a couple chips and a ton of black beans.
We got the okay at rounds to disconnect Owen from everything and let him take a long walk.  We even left the 5th floor and wandered to the 3rd floor rooftop garden.  The first time he has been outside in nearly 4 weeks!  There was a nice breeze and we walked around for a while.  It must have felt amazing for Owen.  I felt good just getting out of his room for a bit.

We came back and wandered the unit for a while and I gave him crazy wheelchair rides.  He didnt want to come back to his room and I can't say I blame him.  We took some toys back to the playroom we borrowed and Owen looked around for something new to borrow.  we found a Batman Lego set and that was just the motivation he needed to come back to his room and get plugged back in to monitors.
It took him about an hour, but he had fun!  He finished just in time for Daddy, Kam and Logan to show up.  Then Kel brought her girls.  We had dinner and Bridg took a face dive in the  cafeteria and busted her lip... at least we were in a hospital.
It was a busy day and Owen is still going strong.  He ordered dinner but wont eat a bite.  After 9pm meds he usually feels crummy again...enough to want to sleep.

  Tomorrow is a new day!

Tummy Aches

It has not been the best day for Mr Owen.  He has complained of tummy aches since he woke up and has hardly eaten a thing.  He looks a little fluid negative (dry) too.  He was not pleased when I arrived at 11am and made him freshen up for the day.  We brushed his teeth, washed his hair, washed him with the surgical wipes and I changed all his bedding.  I am pretty sure he yelled at me for about 20 minutes..but was quick to thank me when it was all done.

Daddy slept with Owen at the hospital while I had a night in my own bed. I missed rounds this morning but as much as Carson told me, today was status quo.

Owen looks and seems to feel better tonight after a long, lazy day.  He says his tummy feels much better tonight which is great news!  I may have been a little on edge earlier thinking we should consider restarting Milrinone.  We did change the dressing on his ij line in his chest...not fun! Hoping for  a quiet evening at the hospital.

Goodbye Milrinone

The Justice League stopped by for a visit today.  Owen had a lazy morning, followed up with PT that left him exhausted after just 10 minutes.  He is gaining weight slow and steady while getting a little stronger each day.  Dr J. read his echo today and let me know it looks a little better.  We stopped Milrinone and we will let him relax this weekend.  I am not sure what the next step is.  He is still tachycardic and his heart function is still not great.

For now...we continue to make the most of each day.
