After a long night in the SSU, we finally headed back to our hotel at around 2am this morning. We got a few hours of shut eye until it was time for breakfast, packing up and heading home. We got the call with Owen's biopsy results of ZERO REJECTION!! We are thrilled!! This was huge because we now get a three month break before Owen's next biopsy! I think I am a little more excited than Owen is to be perfectly honest.
We will continue to do IVIG every other month at Phoenix Childrens if I can get insurance on board. Traveling is fun, but so exhausting and not inexpensive. If his c1q antibodies continue to come back as zero, then we will talk about suspending his IVIG treatments in July. It will have been continuous monthly IVIG treatments for 24 months at that point... what a celebration we will have if we can stop! Owen tells everyone (very matter of factly).. "I am going to be doing IVIG the rest of my entire life." It's heartbreaking that it's so 'normal' to him.
We got lost on our way to the airport, but made it in time to grab a bite to eat. Not before we checked in at the ticket counter and were told that our flight was overbooked and we were bumped. I was surprisingly calm about it and was super grateful when several nice passengers took the free voucher and volunteered their seats on the plane. It all worked out in the end.. we even got the awesome row in the front with all the leg room.
We are home. It feels so good to be home and we were only gone 36 hours. Life is good! We are so grateful for Owen's transplant team and all their expertise.. things couldn't be going any better for him and everyone is so pleased with his progress.
I'm off to pick up Kam at dance. It's a late night... then sleep!! Oh how wonderful sleep sounds.

I don't comment often, but I do keep up with Owen on a regular basis. I am glad he is doing so well! It is a joy to watch the transformation. Thanks for sharing.
