Scorpion Hunting and Stanford

This picture pretty much sums up our week!  Daddy has been driving the car with air conditioning, so we have been hanging out at home.  There have been a couple big haboobs pass through, which is basically just a giant dust storm, that passes by and makes everything dirty.  Swimming hasn't been appealing because it's so hot outside during the day and the evenings are bringing dust.  So, we have spent a lot of our time indoors playing games, reading chapter books {Owen's new fav thing} and watching movies.
Kam had an orthodontist appointment on Wednesday morning, so we rushed around to get out of here on time.  I threw my tank top on the back of the couch and was running around drawing up meds.  When I came back to throw it on I noticed something crawling on it.  I freaked a little but couldn't see what kind of bug it was. I shook it and shook it and nothing would fall out.  I finally sat it on the floor and had Kam watch guard with tennis shoes on while I ran upstairs to grab a new shirt.  When I came down she said "I got it!"  It was smooshed in the kitchen.  I didn't take a picture because I was so freaked out!!   A baby scorpion!!!!  I am an AZ native and have never encountered a scorpion yet, which I realize is rare.  We don't have bugs around here, no crickets or black widows, so I'm hoping it just came in on one of the boxes we have delivered with Owen's medical supplies.  Ewww.. so nasty.

I bought black lights last night on my way home from dance and the boys {yes Owen too} went scorpion hunting.  Owen comes in the room and with a super bummed expression says "I didn't find a single scorpion mom."

I'm still grossed out.. everytime a hair brushes my shoulder I freak out.  Since I found it on my shirt on the back of the sofa I am scared to even sit down.  I'm scarred for live.

Oh.. I finally heard from Stanford and Owen has appointments scheduled on July 9th!  It's coming up fast!  Since we don't have time to arrange portable oxygen rentals and decent priced airline tickets, we decided we will drive up the coast of Cali.  We have free tickets for a few theme parks thanks to Give Kids the World from Owen's Make A Wish trip.  I'm still working on plans, but this will be our last family vacation for a while.  Based on the information from cardio, they plan to list him for a new heart as soon as the 13th of July!!  Yikes.  I have the sucker punch, think I'm gonna puke, stress down deep in my gut and it is awful.   I am hoping a little vacation with my favorite three will help take our minds off things for the short term.

Time to cook dinner and then Owen is stoked to do a little more scorpion hunting tonight.  I think he really wants to find something and I am praying we don't! :)

Be sure to shake your shoes!!! On one particularly busy morning, I grabbed my 4-year-old's shoes and made him put them on in the car. He screamed out the biggest blood curdling scream, and it turns out one was hiding out in his shoe. Around here, they're not poisonous, but it sure hurts to be stung. :(

Have you ever considered using Angel Flights West to fly Owen and you back and forth to Stanford for appts?
The service is completely free, so you would save a ton on flights, and the planes are small private planes so much less germy than commercial airlines for Owen.

Check it out! Seems like a great option for you since you travel there so often for appts.

When Owen is listed for the heart, will they let you wait in AZ, or require you to move to CA to wait?
